02/1/14 World Transplant Games 2015
Coventry Petanque Club has again been asked to provide training facilities for the England Pétanque team in readiness for next year's World Transplant Games. The team trained at the Burnt Post prior to the 2013 games, which were held in Durban South Africa, and we have been asked for the use of our terrain again so that they can train before the 2015 games, this time in Argentina. Sadly we will not be sponsored to accompany them. Brian has offered to give them some coaching, providing he is not committed to the England Juniors on the training days and the committee have agreed to assist in whatever way we can, both offers have been accepted with grateful thanks. All participants in the World Transplant Games have had some sort of transplant procedure, be it kidney, heart or other, and last time the pétanque players were playing the sport as a subsiduary to their main one, this time around they hope to be be able to plan and train better for Argentina with pétanque being the main sport for some of the team at least.

28/08/14 HoE Summer League. The finish
The final round of the HoE Summer League 2014 was played out last evening when Stockton Half Crown Knights were confirmed winners after a 4-0 thumping of 5th. placed Warwick Royals. Congratulations to Coventry Leofric, who finished a creditable second in division 1, 7 games behind the Knights but a healthy 5 games ahead of Solihull Swifts. Swifts got their revenge with a 3-1 victory over Leofric in the final round.
Division 2 was won by Nomades 1, with Nomades 2, 5 games behind in second place. Coventry Godiva finished in 6th. place, 3 games behind Solihull Swans but a comfortable 5 games ahead of Whitnash Windmill Oats. Godiva was lead by captain Rita David and Vice captain Irene Rogers. Both were cutting their teeth in these roles and I am sure they will have benefited from the experience. The decision on promotion and relegation will be confirmed when the number of teams entered for 2015 is known at the beginning of next year but I anticipate that both Nomades teams will be promoted, giving division 1 a shake up, and Half crown Villagers relegated to division 2.
Final tables are in the results pages.
22/07/2014 Vernon Todd
I learned this week that Vernon has suffered a fall down the stairs at his Tile Hill home. He has a broken collar bone and broken three ribs, none of which can be treated other than by restricting movement. He is in University Coventry and Warwickshire Hospital while they investigate the cause of him losing his balance as this is not the first time he has fallen.
I am sure you will all join me in wishing Vernon a speedy recovery.

16/06/2014 Latest coaching session announced.
Brian is holding a coaching session for Coventry Cluib members at the Burnt Post at 6-15 on Friday 20th. Please let Brian know if you can attend and so that he can make preparation-and copy Tony please.
16/06/2014 HoE Singles and Shooting.
HoE annual Singles and Shooting competition was held at Coventry on Sunday 15th. June. A disappointing entry of just 7 for the singles and 9 for the shooting. Could this have been due to the limit of 14 entries I wonder? If you were one who did not enter perhaps you would like to let us know why via the contact form on the Contact page. Details of the winners on the Heart of England web site via the Links page.

29/04/2014 The trophy for the Alexandra Open Mixed Pairs has arrived in Coventry
Today I had the pleasure of collecting the trophy for the Alexandra Open Mixed Pairs competition. Unfortunately I only had to collect it from the Post Office and not New Zealand.

THE ALEXANDRA TROPHY
PRESENTED BY THE
ALEXANDRA PETANQUE CLUB
NEW ZEALAND
This sample of Rhodonite is from Otago, one of only two places in New Zealand where this type of rock is found.
A local Rock-Hound found, cut and polished the piece to show off its wonderful pink and black qualities.
Best wishes for a successful tournament from us all at Alexandra Petanque Club.
May there be loads of fun, laughter, food and perhaps Central Otago Pinot Noir!
As they say..."we wish we were there".

26/01/2014 Postponement of HoE Winter pairs.
The threat of severe weather with high winds and heavy rain forced the cancellation of the HoE Winter airs round scheduled for Coventry today. The tyerrain was already very wet, with flooding at the edges, on FRiday evening and with the local weather forecasters expecting more severe weather on Sunday it was decided to postpone this round until Sunday March 2nd.
