Annual Presentation Dinner
Almost 30 members and partners attended the club's annual presentation dinner, at the Queen and Castle Kenilworth, on Thursday November 29th. Colourful waistcoats were the order of the day for the men with their ladies sporting the finest from their wardrobe. As this was just a few weeks before Christmas many took advantage for an early sample of Christmas food, while the rest selected from the daily menu. Judging from the noisy chatter and laughter around the room I think I can say everybody enjoyed the evening. Photographs are in the Gallery page. There were a few trophy winners absent, mainly die to the travelling distance for them, so you will have to use your imagination and picture Paula, Jacob Smith and Patricia Rowland with their trophies.

EuroCup
Congratulations to Bath in winning the third round of the EuroCup against Coventry today. The 4-1 score line could have been closer had we taken our chances. Two memories are the spectacular shot on the jack by Craig (I think) of Bath to get it into open space and win an opportunity to score 5 and take the game away from us and another end where the jack rebounded off a boule and we ended up playing a 3mtr. coche.
Thanks to our hosts for their hospitality and the buffet lunch afterwards.

Bryan Kimberley Open Charity Melee
Thirty players from around the country and the Heart of England contested the final competition of the 2019 season at Coventry on Sunday 21st. October.
On an unseasonably warm and sunny day 5 games, timed at 45 mins. plus one end, were played in a friendly atmosphere. Surprisingly no one was "Fannied", although one game did go to 13-1, just avoiding that dreaded result and one game ended up all square at 10-10.
The winner was Coventry's Bob Price, winning his first ever competition by coming out victorious in 4 of his 5 games. Bob was not the only one to win 4 however as Colin Smith made his journey from Liverpool worthwhile by coming second just one point behind Bob. Third was Rita David from West Haddon, Northants , 2 points further behind and in fourth place, 3 points further adrift was local girl Sheila Eburne. Four players winning 4 games but bo one managing to win all 5.
This competition is always run to support a local charity, which this year will be Coventry Cyrenians to help support homeless and needy people. he competition raised £109 for charity and boosted the charity fund from previous raffles this year to over £200.
Thank you everybody who generously bought raffle tickets.

Coventry Open Triples
The Coventry Open Triples was held on Sunday 9th. September in nice early Autumn weather. Ten teams, with players from as far away as Manchester, Doncaster and North Staffordshire, played a 5 round snake, the usual format at Coventry. Surprisngly no game went the full distance of 13-12 but there was one "fanny" inflicted by John Street 3 on fellow club members John Street 1. however the third team from John Street, of Tim Bates, Martin Greenhall and Matt Barlow ran out overall winners with 5 wins out of 5 and a points difference of +31. Second place was taken by Colin Smith (Manchester area) playing with his son Jacob and Doncaster based Pat Rowlands. The Whitnash trio of Glenn, Carol and Hannah filled the third spot.
Congratulations to the winners and good luck to all the players who will be representing their regions at Hayling Island.

Alexandra Open Mixed Pairs
Sunday 1st. July saw Coventry PC welcome players from as far afield as Lancaster, Liverpool, Doncaster, Nottingham and Penkrige to contest the annual Alexandra Mixed pairs. The 14 teams played 3 timed games of 45 minutes plus 2 ends with a further end available if still tied. After a good buffet in the Burnt Post a further two, un-timed games were played. At the end the heat of the day had certainly taken it's toll on the players but worthy winners were Pat Rowlands and Jacob Smith. Tony and Betty Thompson were runners up and Gary Durrant and Penny Bratos third. There were 4 "fannies" during the day, two of them in the opening round, inflicted by Gary & Penny and Tony and Eileen Sollis. The others came in the 4th. round, again inflicted by Garry and Penny and in the 5th. by Tony and Betty. Just one game went the full distance when Rita david and Keith Turner egded out Garry and Penny. So for the second year in succession the unique trophy goes out of the region, this time wending it's way up the M1 to Doncaster. My thanks to all who made this competition possible and for the very enjoyable day. |
